"The standard of truth has been erected; no unhallowed can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent , visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done." Ward Campout
February 1st was the ward campout. Some of the people came up Friday night and set up tents and had a campout. We arrived with the Kimballs the next day. They hired a bus to bring those without transport and some of the members brought their cars. A brother from the ward who is wheelchair bound, traveled with us in the van.
The campout was held close to the mountains in a pasture. It even had a swimming pool.
This is Elder L and I tasting matte, only he really didn't taste it. I found out later that I was drinking out of the community straw. We are not in Kansas anymore Dorthy!
Matte is a mixture of dried weeds and herbs that they put in the bottom of the cup. Then they pour boiling water on top and add some liquid sugar. My advice is don't try on an empty stomach and if you have a full stomach it might make you empty it anyway. It is a drink only for the brave and strong, but the people just love it here. Kind of like fruit cake, you have to be raised on it.
One of the sisters was crocheting a purse out of plastic grocery bags.
Sister Kimball looking at a completed purse.
One of the sisters cooking meat on the grill.
Just hanging out and enjoying being here.
Playing water balloons, luckily I did not get wet.
They even had an outdoor sink. We are living in style.
Even the really old grandmas went into the pool. They wore the clothes they came in and just took off their shoes and waded into the pool. They went in chest high and then splashed water in their faces and heads. The little kids sure got a kick out of it.
I was happy to see that they had flushing outdoor toilets.
They even had running water to wash the hands and . . .
. . . take a shower. Life is good.
Luckily nothing or no one was hiding in the rafters. We had an enjoyable day getting to know the members of our ward and just having fun being outside in the sunshine.
